my dream kitchen

The kitchen to me is such an important part of any house. It's a place of refuge, a place where you can disappear for a little bit and come back with something delicious to share with loved ones. Maybe that's a little bit cheesy, but kitchens, generally, are my favorite part of any house. Since we knew we'd be essentially gutting the flat so that we could make repairs before installing anything, when it would inevitably cost much more money, and be a lot more of an inconvenience, we had several discussions about what our kitchen would look like. Both of us like to cook. Both of us prefer simple, classic looks, and both of us wanted something that would last many years, and not really go out of style.
Naturally, I took to Pinterest to look for inspiration, and it led to a number of discoveries:

Open Shelving: Our kitchen is not particularly large, but having open shelving or cabinets with windows helps open up the space. More light reflected, that sort of thing. Don't box in the kitchen! Plus it's a nice way to show off wares, without having to waste counter space.

Subway Tile: I am obsessed with subway tile. It looks so classic, and crisp, without being too overwhelming. It's very trendy these days, I think, but it's always trendy, so in 10 years time, we'll still like it. Subway tile never really goes out of style, so there isn't that worry of waking up and feeling like your kitchen is outdated.

White Walls: I considered briefly having the walls in the kitchen be a color other than white. I wasn't sure, but upon reflection, we decided that was the best route to go. A nice crisp white to help lighten the room up would be perfect. Especially as our kitchen isn't as large, sticking with lighter colors would help in that regard.
Accent Colors: The thing I've noticed is that, especially in the pictures above, too much white can be offset by having some accent colors to play with. Little things, like the color of the toaster, or a kitchen timer, or whatever little things can help add some color.
